About our hosts: Jody and Yahali of Wai & Aina

Welcome to Wai & Aina, a 20 acre developing sustainable farm nestled in Keapana Valley in Kauai. We – Jody and Yahali embarked on this project in summer 2023. Together, we planted the seeds of our farm, united by a vision and fusion of our skills in engineering and construction, to cultivate more than crops; we aspired to develop a community and craft a haven where sustainability intertwines with education, agriculture and technology. When we first arrived it was head high grass literally everywhere. We have been hard at work building infrastructure, bringing in mini farm animals, creating enclosures, planting a food forest and veggie gardens, to the point where we have been curating and sharing unique and rustic experiences on our farm.

More about us: Jody and Yahali met in Kauai in 2020. Their connection rooted spiritually through dance and deepened through passion for water sports, including surfing, kitesurfing, diving, and spearfishing. They found a profound mutual life goal to utilize their engineering and construction skills to build Wai & Aina. Jody’s innate passion to make a positive impact with her head, heart and hands stems from her high school years focused in technical arts with a public purpose. She then graduated from MIT with a bachelors in mechanical engineering, minor in materials science, and masters in manufacturing. She founded W8X in 2018, a robotic strength training device startup and moved to work as a product engineer on the Apple Watch. For the past two years her engineering efforts focused on increasing sustainability, evaluating recycled and renewable materials, and reducing carbon footprint. Yahali’s deep rooted connections in Kauai developed from 4 years working for ag-based businesses, starting a coconut trimming business- which he sold in 2016- and then founding Garden Island Handyman as well as Garden Island Contractors with his brother Ayal. He is now a licensed general contractor with 8 years of experience in construction and high interest to promote Aircrete construction in Kauai. His steadfast efforts at Wai & Aina are dedicated to spreading an organic and sustainable lifestyle throughout Kauai and the broader community.

Keapana beckons with enchanting beauty, surrounded by farm life boasting breathtaking vistas of verdant hills and valleys. The weather, characterized by tropical warmth and occasional showers, adds to the allure with frequent rainbows, creating a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts year-round.

At our farm, you'll find amiable miniature cows, sheep, chickens, ducks and goats, offering delightful opportunities for social interaction. Steps outside the property is Kapaa river, a 20 minute paddle to Kealia beach, with nice gentle offshore breezes and calmer surf during the summer months for waves often suited for all levels. A sunset paddle back from the beach to the property, passes pasturing cows, exotic birds and a tapestry view of King Kong mountain with emerald hues and rugged cliffs– we think it’s a national treasure! Embraced by minimal light pollution, our surroundings gift enchanting starlit nights under the vast expanse of a clear sky. We are growing a fruit forrest and veggie garden. We hope to incorporate produce where possible to meals. In addition, we aspire to provide a deeper immersion into Hawaiian culture for an evening dinner. Our onsite Imu, the traditional Hawaiian underground oven, promises to deliver authentic culinary experiences, including succulent Kalua pig, hearty ulu (breadfruit), and flavorful uala (sweet potatoes).

Explore the vibrant streets dotted with boutique shops, art galleries, and local eateries, offering a taste of island life and authentic Hawaiian hospitality.
