E Ko Mo Mai! Welcome to our Sanctuary!

Aloha! We are grateful that you are joining us here in the healing vortex that is Sunshine Sacred Sanctuary! We cherish this beautiful piece of paradise that we are blessed to call home on the magical Moku O Keawe–aka the “Big Island” of Hawai’i. We are so grateful to be sharing it with you and hope that your stay at the Sanctuary will be renewing, rewarding, and refreshing!

All year round we are blessed with an abundance of fruit of many varieties! The orchards also make for a beautiful place to meditate, play, pray, create, contemplate, and grow! Listening to the many bird songs, watching the resident Hawaiian Hawks (‘Io) fly ahead, getting licks and nuzzles from one of our many furry friends (cats and dogs), eating fresh fruit off the tree, and enjoying a bonfire and BBQ are just some of the deeply nourishing simple joys that the farm has to offer.

Located just 10 mins from Pahoa Town enjoy the ease of town access while also having just a short 30 minute drive to lower Puna which boasts the infamous Red Road, Uncle Robert’s, Kahena Black Lava Sand Beach, Pohoiki Lava Powered Hot Ponds, World Renowned Kalani Ecstatic Dance, Sundari Gardens Spa, and Kapoho Mermaid Ponds! Drive 1 hour South and you can find yourself in Volcanoes National Park, or 1 hour North to Mauna Kea!

Connect to the ‘Āina in our Down to Earth Accommodations

Here at Sunshine Sacred Sanctuary, we are a 100% off grid sustainable fruit farm! That means that all of our power comes from the sun, our water comes from the rain, and our internet comes from the stars (aka satellites)! We value living in rhythm with the cycles of nature, and living sustainably and enjoy sharing this lifestyle with our guests when they stay with us! We love and care about animals, and help support our local animals in need when they come to us. Right now we have the “cat council” which consists of many jungle cats that have adopted us as their Sanctuary, as well as a few dogs that call the Sanctuary home and live with our Steward Sunshine and the other caretakers.

Nestled in our 5 acres of abundant fruit orchards, we have 5 yurts and one brown cabin for our guests to stay in. Each space is unique and full of charm, whimsy and a peaceful connection to nature. We value eco-friendly building methods that respect nature and support our guests’ connection to the earth. Naturally, we are excited to add Aircrete domes to our options ;-) and honored to host and support this Aircrete workshop!

The yurt sleeping options vary from 1 queen bed, 1-2 queen sized bunk beds, or 1-2 inflatable twin mattresses—with 1-4 people sharing a yurt and its attached bathroom and kitchenette spaces. The brown cabin has a king sized bed, and with a short walk through one of our beautiful orchards, has access to the shared community bathrooms. These structures easily accommodate 12 people, with allowances for more if couples, friends or family members would like to share a bed.

In addition to our regular guest accommodations, participants are welcome to camp on the land. Spots are first come first serve throughout the orchards. Guests will have access to a community bathroom space with 2 toilets and 2 showers. Campers must bring their own camping gear and bedding. No camping pads are provided on the land.

Flights to Big Island

We highly recommend flying into Hilo International Airport (ITO) as this airport is only 37 mins away from the Sanctuary. The other option is flying into Kona International Airport (KOA) which is 2 hours away from us. Participants are required to book their own flights.

Shuttle Service from Hilo

Sunshine Sacred Sanctuary will provide pick up from Hilo (ITO) on 9/3 at 2pm and 6pm ($20/person).

On 9/14, Sunshine Sacred Sanctuary will provide return transportation to Hilo (ITO) for two times (TBA) after 12pm ($20/person).

There are some Uber, Lyft, and Taxi services available for pick up at the airport ($50-$90), but are not as easy to come by on our small rural island.

Local Ride Share

Sunshine Sacred Sanctuary can also connect you to local ride share services for $40/person. If participants decide to rent a car, and want to volunteer to do ride share with one another, we will provide a ride share excel document for people to carpool together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Title

About Our Host (Sunshine)

Title

Sunshine first came to the islands as a teenager to visit her grandmother who lived on Maui.  That foundational experience stuck with Sunshine and when the opportunity to steward this land arose, she knew she was being called to do something different.

Driving onto the Sanctuary property, Sunshine knew that this place held healing.  She also knew that it was healing that was meant to be shared with others.  Sunshine got to work putting together a team of healers, care takers, and construction crews to undertake to build a retreat center for people to come and experience the healing for themselves.
