Karen's dome home was built during a workshop in August 2019 and completed by her and her husband over the following months. Her 16-foot diameter dome boasts 220 square feet of enchanted living space, including kitchen, bed and bathroom. "I love that the dome is so unique and that everyone who has seen it says 'wow!' when they first step inside. I'm also really proud of the fact that I was able to build a house with the help of others, something I would have never believed just a few years ago."

The Enchanted Dome is connected to electricity from the main house on the property, and grey water from the dome runs into a trench dug out to water the trees. Karen found that the most challenging part of construction was working with the changing seasons. "Trying to pour blocks once the weather turned cold, the soap bubbles would just collapse. The work would have gone much faster in a warmer climate."

She estimates the total cost of the Enchanted Dome was about $20,000 including the foundation, all the tools and materials, heating system, paint, professional plasterer, extra labor, custom windows, stained glass window, interior and exterior lighting, wood counters, kitchen and bathroom sinks, shower fixtures and taps in bathroom and kitchen.
