About Our Host

Title

"Thanks for stopping by. My name is Sparrow. In short, I consider myself an earth steward, and I feel privileged to be the steward of a very special piece of land on the edge of the very special town of Ajo, which is considered to be the Heart of the Sonoran Desert, the heart being the very special people who call it home, some of whom have volunteered to help make your time here, a unique and memorable one.

This project is fulfilling a lifelong dream to build my own home. I used to doodle round house  designs in my twenties, and now those doodles are finally coming to life. As an artist, massage therapist, and health and wellness practitioner, I’m excited to be creating a sacred space that will reflect and support all my special interests, my quirky personality, and my desire to serve the community of Ajo in a very special way. I became the steward of this very quirky piece of land, that is mostly wash in March of 2024. It has been undervalued and mistreated for many years and it is my intention to clean it up and give it the tender loving care it deserves.

My desire to be a good earth steward and better human, has inspired me to explore and immerse myself in permaculture design courses, professional landscaping, rainwater harvesting, master gardening, and a life long career in the health and wellness industry.

I am blessed to be supported by a host of special friends and neighbors who have offered to help organize the food and lodging, in order to make your experience here a memorable one in the most positive way. I am deeply and profoundly grateful for their friendship, their love, their encouraging words, and contributions, and yours, should you choose to come, to building my dream home."

Location Details:  Ajo, Arizona

Title

Ajo is described as an island in the desert. It is two hours off the beaten bath from Phoenix, Tucson, Yuma and Rocky Point Mexico. It is constantly in a state of being discovered and it attracts a wide variety of interesting, friendly people who often have a very interesting story to tell, about how they ended up in Ajo.

Something people who are attracted to Ajo have in common, would be the love of the beautiful Sonoran Desert, the slower pace, and the peace and quiet. It is surrounded by millions of acres of public and tribal land with plenty of opportunity for cycling, hiking, birdwatching, stargazing, photography, rockhounding, golfing, and more.

Next would be the town itself, a gem among the list of former mining towns in Arizona. It’s stunning Spanish Colonial Revival plaza is flanked on the West by two beautiful churches, the East by the former train station (now the visitor center), on the North the Oasis Cafe, a popular hang out, and the post office. On the South you’ll find the library, a gallery full of beautiful local art, a yoga studio, a boutique, and lots of murals to enjoy all around the plaza area. This literal oasis, in the midst of a dry desert is the social hub of the community. There are festivals and festivities, a Saturday Mercado, yoga on the lawn, music and more.

The desert, people, historic buildings, churches and unforgettable sunsets are just some of the many reasons people visit and often stay, in Ajo. The Heart of the Sonoran Desert.
